Moths cause millions of dollars in personal property damage each year.
When I was a child, a friend’s mother used to pay us a quarter for every moth we could kill, as she hated what they did to her clothes and rugs every year. For such a small creature, they can do tremendous damage!
There is nothing more frustrating than pulling out last season’s clothing and finding it unusable because moths have taken over. An expensive and perfectly good sweater with a small hole that cannot be repaired … That is a sure sign of moth damage.
But bedding, rugs, and furniture are also at risk. Moths lay eggs in these food sources and once the eggs hatch, it’s a never-ending buffet line costing millions of dollars.
The ONLY way to deal with moths is to prevent them from establishing themselves in your home. They fly through the doors as you enter and exit, so even the pickiest housekeeper can end up with these property destroyers. And the worst part is that you don’t necessarily know there is a problem until after the damage!
So what can be done to control moths?
Choose an all-natural pest control product that is safe, environmentally friendly, and effective. Make sure the website or label has clear instructions for controlling moths. By applying frequently you are essentially creating your own cedar cabinets and cedar chests that tell the moths they ARE NOT WELCOME.
– Depending on the product you choose, it can be applied with a manual or pump sprayer. Inside your closet, apply your favorite all-natural pest control product to walls, floors, bookshelves, and all over the carpet in all closets – bedroom cabinets, coat cabinets, broom cabinets, and even pantries.
– Spray initially once a week for two weeks and then once every two weeks.
– Twice a month, open all the drawers of your dressers, dressers, wardrobes, etc. and spray the sides and bottom of the drawers to create your own cedar chests.
– Before use, spray inside gym bags, luggage and suitcases before traveling … anywhere clothing is stored or transported.
– If you have clothing storage boxes, take strips of paper or paper towels and spray them with your favorite all-natural pest control product. After these strips are dry to the touch, store them with your clothing in the container. This creates a hostile environment and the moths will not enter the storage boxes and do their damage.
– Depending on how well sealed the storage containers are, you may want to repeat the soaked paper throughout the year.
Be proactive against moths to minimize damage. Let them know that moths ARE NOT WELCOME!
