Sometimes a small book can be more enriching than a large volume. What would you do if you ran the world? By Shelly Rachanow is such a book. It inspires, encourages and urges women to take action to improve themselves, their loved ones, their community and the world. Encouraging people to participate is an incessant task, but the creative way in which the author offers her ideas should motivate even the most apathetic people as they begin to work on themselves and gradually advance their ambitions.
The book has four main sections:
o What would you do … for yourself?
o What would you do … for your loved ones?
o What would you do … for your community?
or What would you do … for the world?
Each section has examples of women’s accomplishments and encouraging witty quotes from very important people like Mother Teresa. In the first section, after Eleanor Roosevelt’s quote from “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent,” the author encourages women with: Take their advice and stop giving your consent to be overworked, used, abused, abandoned … Subsequently, a quote from Oprah Winfrey, telling women to do something so daring that even they can’t believe they are doing it, leads to “incredible ideas in action” and a “My Opinion Rocks” pledge for them to do so. women print and sign.
The Making … For Loved Ones section begins with an inspiring list of ten items, followed by examples of what women did and could do in that category, including an “I accept your choices” pledge, leading to courageous love. , beautiful and bright inspiration, like what Dana Reeve has done for Christopher Reeve.
The third section also has a list of ten things to do for the community and volunteering, followed by ideas, motivational stories, quotes, and a pact to make the community a better place. Although, at first reading, the ideas in this book may seem highly idealistic, they are doable, and each story from the experience challenges and encourages readers. The women’s successes are uplifting and encouraging.
