Your smartphone isn’t exactly your computer, even after using it for various purposes. However, there are still some common issues that you can go through like a frozen phone. Even if you are using an iOS device or Android based phone, the problem is common. It is extremely annoying when you go through such problems and often don’t know what to do. Here are some tips to unfreeze your iPhone and Android phone.

How to unfreeze your iPhone

• Crashes often occur due to app issues that leave your phone frozen. At this point, you need to force close. If you’re using iOS 7, double-tap the Home button to display the app switcher inside the multitasking bar, then flick left to locate the app that’s frozen, flick up to throw it off the screen. For those who use the iOS 6 home button -> App Switcher -> long press the app icon and when it moves, tap the – button to turn it off.

• If your iPhone is going crazy and won’t let you access the app switcher, then the best option you have is to restart your phone. Press and hold the sleep button located on the top of your phone until you see the Slide to power off slider appear. Slide to the right to turn off the phone. To turn your phone back on, you need to press the sleep button again until the Apple logo appears.

• If you face a situation where your iPhone doesn’t respond to your taps, you need to force restart it. Press and hold the sleep button + home button until you can see the Apple logo on the screen. After a few minutes, your iPhone will be working as before.

• Another way to prevent your iPhone from freezing is to do a factory reset or default settings. Be careful though, as you could lose all the data on your phone, so it’s a good idea to back up your data before attempting a factory reset. Settings->General->Reset->Reset all settings. Now, as soon as you are done with all this, your phone will go back to factory settings and everything including your apps and additional software will be erased.

• You can also opt for iTunes restore by connecting your phone via USB to your system. A list of devices will appear from which you need to select your phone. Summary tab->Restore iPhone option, it will start a backup of all settings. As soon as it’s done, download and install fresh iOS and then apply the default settings. To restore your data, go to Backups -> Restore Backup.

How to unfreeze your Android phone?

Force-close an application:

• First of all, you need to force close the app that is causing problems, slide to reveal the tab->Select the app you want to close by touching the stop button. If you cannot see the app in the given list, go to the top right corner and look for Show cached processes.

• You can even try to force shutdown and press power button + volume up button until the screen turns off. Turn on by pressing the power button. If you have trouble using the volume up button, use the volume down button.

• If your Android has a removable battery, you can remove the back cover of your phone and take out the battery. After a few seconds replace the battery and close the battery cover, now turn your phone to the back. However, remember to use this method when nothing else works to unfreeze your Android phone.

• Another way to unfreeze your phone is to try the factory reset method. Restoring your phone to factory defaults might help you get rid of phone freezing issue. However, before you start the factory reset process, you should back up your phone by connecting it to your system via USB.

• For factory reset, go to Settings->Backup->Reset and locate Factory data reset, tap on it. A confirmation is required to continue. Once you have confirmed, the factory reset process will begin.

Performing the steps mentioned above will ensure that the phone will get rid of the phone freezing issue. However, if it happens again, you should contact a technology expert.
