There are different types of tires to suit different road conditions. Tires generally consist of cords and wires encased in an air-inflated synthetic rubber case. These types of inflatable tires are commonly used in motorcycles, cars, trucks, excavators, and other heavy vehicles, as the robustness of each type of tire is different. The tread plays an important role, as it is the part of the tire that comes into contact with the road and provides traction. The tread is usually made of thick rubber and does not wear out quickly due to the presence of grooves and lugs in it. The lugs are generally designed to be asymmetrical to reduce noise and the presence of space between the lugs allows water to drain quickly. The design of the tread and the robustness of the rubber is what distinguishes one tire from another.

Winter tires are called high-performance tires that have small vacuum ratios that allow more rubber to contact the road while in motion, which in turn increases friction. There is a sense of importance to using them. In fact, the European Union has made these tires a legal requirement on snowy and sleet roads. If you plan to travel in Europe, you may need to make separate inquiries for each country, as winter tire laws vary by country.

In France, winter tires have not been made mandatory, however they insist on snow chains and spikes. Vehicles that use nails may be required to wear a badge indicating the use of nails. In Switzerland, they are mandatory. Snow chains are allowed there, but they must be mounted on at least two drive wheels. Some people find it quite difficult to carry extra sets of tires and change them quite frequently depending on the area they are traveling through. The solution may be to carry a set of all-season tires, which can then be used on snowy roads, as long as they have the M + S mark.

Austria has strict laws on winter tires, as well as the maximum permissible weight that a vehicle can carry during the winter season. While Italy does not impose the use of winter tires and the snow road can be managed with snow chains. Latvia usually has a lot of snow throughout the year, so winter tires are very mandatory there. Germany is visited quite frequently by many people from all over the world. They have strict rules on winter tires, however snow chains can be used. But the use of summer tires on snowy roads definitely invites highway patrols.
