I sometimes get emails from readers who want me to review the Chinese, astrological, or numerological gender calendars in relation to conceiving a girl or a boy. I did some research on these calendars to determine why there is interest. I think at the end of the day, people want to believe that they have some control over the gender of their baby using simple techniques. The good news is that I absolutely 100% believe that you can decide the gender of your baby. The bad news is that I don’t think a Chinese, astrological, or numerological calendar is going to help you do that.

I have searched for reliable science on which these Chinese calendars are based and just don’t find it convincing. When you only have one shot at success, I think it’s wise to have cold, hard science on your side. Sure, it’s fun to use astrology and numerology for decisions that don’t make a real difference, but if you really want to determine the outcome of your gender, you might want to see if these things supposedly work and why.

I think you don’t need a special calendar to help you get the gender you want. Any free or cheap basic monthly/yearly calendar will be one of the tools that will work well. I will explain below.

Why a basic calendar works better than a Chinese genre calendar: At least in my opinion, the only monthly device you’ll need here is the kind that’s often given to you for free or you can print from your computer. Sure, it’s great to know that if you’re a Gemini or a Tiger, your luckiest days are after the 20th or something similar.

But what if you could know for sure which days are the best to get a girl? What if you could pinpoint the exact day to conceive a child for which you had scientific proof? Actually you can. This is what science tells us about gender selection. The sperm-producing boy and the sperm-producing girl respond very differently to different situations and stimuli. Girl sperm are tough and slow moving, but boy sperm are unusually weak but fast moving.

For a girl conception, you want to conceive early as this relates to your ovulation day. For a boy, you want to conceive late. Specifically, for a son, you want to wait until the day of ovulation (or a day after) and for a daughter, you want to limit yourself to 3-4 days before her egg is ready.

But how can you find this out? Get a reliable ovulation predictor. Once again, this is based on science. These predictors measure your body fluids to measure changes that show that ovulation is approaching. Basically, these can analyze blood, saliva or urine. I like saliva predictors because they are more flexible and cost effective.

Do you see what I mean about that simple and ordinary calendar? When you use science instead of superstition, you can be sure that the dates you circle are really accurate.
