As you probably know, TV critics use the phrase “jump the shark” to describe the time when a TV show has seen its best days and is on the decline. So has the world’s most popular game console reached its peak?

The once red-hot Wii console was IMPOSSIBLE to find in stores, and due to limited supply, moms begged, bribed, and cajoled hapless Toys R Us and Walmart employees about when the next shipment would arrive. eBay hucksters snapped up as many as they could and could double or even triple the MSRP of $299 just a year ago.

So how hot is the demand for the Wii today? Well, a recent eBay search found over SIX THOUSAND Wii consoles for sale and EIGHTEEN THOUSAND games on the online auction site. This bodes well for the dedicated Wii gamer, as it dictates the age-old law of supply and demand: more supply = lower prices. So there are some pretty hefty deals out there for the savvy eBayer.

Third-party manufacturers continue to churn out cool accessories like the Mario Kart racing wheel (even in pink!), Wii MotionPlus tracks player movements with greater detail and precision than ever before, building on the Wii Remote’s innovative wireless feature (TM) with motion sensor. Even the slightest twist of the wrist or turn of the body is replicated exactly on the television screen, allowing users to immerse themselves further in Wii gameplay.”

With such cool innovations and hot gadgets, Nintendo shows no signs of slowing down, but they better watch out. Playstation3 with its integrated BluRay player is hot on its heels. Microsoft recently slashed the price of its XBox 360. And rumors abound that the Apple team is preparing to enter the console wars with a hybrid console that harnesses the power and popularity of its iPhone.

One thing is for sure, video game consoles are here to stay and Nintendo still has the most innovative, fun and easy to play console ever created. So if they can continue to produce high-quality games, increase their appeal to hardcore gamers, and keep upgrading the hardware with cool gadgets like the Wii MotionPlus, they can still be king of the console jungle for the upcoming holiday sales season.
