If you’re trying to quickly find out which emails aren’t being read in your Mail app for Mac, then we’ve got good news for you. One last simple filter option can make it much easier than ever to display only the most recent or marked unread messages in your email account’s inboxes.

The Quick Toggle Unread Email Filter feature is the most up-to-date version of Mail for Mac OS available today to save you time and effort. If you have an older version of the system software, this capability will not be available to you, though you can use the unread email inbox sorting trick here instead. Assume that you are using one of the newer versions of system software. So the new unread email toggle filter is available which will help you to get unread email.

STEPS TO FILTER UNREAD MAIL ON MAC TO SEE ALL UNREAD MESSAGES:-

  • You need to open the Mail app on your Mac.
  • Go to the main mailboxes screen in your mail and locate the little toggle filter button, it’s a small button and looks like a series of lines on top of each other.
  • Then click the little filter button to immediately filter all emails so that only unread messages appear.
  • Now, click the Filter button again to get all the emails in the inbox, both unread and read as per your requirement.
  • All unread emails will be displayed on the Mail screen only while that option is set and enabled.
  • Otherwise, you can also activate it once and then for each subsequent opening of the mail app, the unread filter will remain enabled.

It’s an easy trick to add when refreshing your inbox to get new email with a single key press if you’re just checking for new or unread messages. It’s also an impossibly useful way if you ever find yourself with the Mail app showing you have new unread emails available, but if you can’t quickly see them on the screen. By toggling the Unread filter, even previous emails that have not been read will appear on your screen.

Please note: you need to click the actual little round filter button if you want to filter the inbox.

If you click the text next to the filter button, it will instead reveal a drop-down menu where you can choose what the quick filter button does: adjust some simple filtering options for each email account setting in Mac Mail .

As we’ve mentioned before, you’ll get this little filter toggle button only in the latest versions of the Mail app for Mac OS. In addition to this, you can get this on Sierra (10.12) or later. If you’re a Mac user with an older version of the system software, then a similar feature can work with creating a smart unread inbox in Mail, and that approach works in new versions of MacOS Mail as well.

Tip: However, this trick will work only for Mac and Mail app users, but if you have a mobile device like iPhone and iPad. You can also have a Show Unread Email option in iOS Mail to quickly know which emails are pending to be read. The unread email filter toggle will work similarly on macOS and iOS devices.
