Two years ago my husband and I took a road trip from New York to Arizona. One of the memorabilia that still stands out today is of an old black and white sign that read Route 66, as well as the signs that read ‘Historic Route 66’. It wasn’t until we pulled into an old gas station in Texas that he learned how old that road was. Postcards with Route 66 printed on them lay all over that gas station. Needless to say, he was delighted to have the opportunity to review this book.

By reading Lost on Route 66: Tales from the Mother Road, written by Katelyn Bohl and Eric Wilder, I was able to recount and appreciate the rich history of this road. This path meant so many different things to so many different people, and I was one of them.

Lost on Route 66 is a collection of short stories, essays, and poems about the famous highway and those who traveled it or lived near it. These stories provide you with life lessons involving the life of an American at the turn of the century, which shaped American life today. By reading each story, I was able to place myself on that path at the particular time. The stories are moving, sad, and some are funny, but overall, each story teaches us a lesson, like my favorite story in the book “Little Lessons in Life,” which describes a tattooed, leather-clad biker who helps a couple with a flat tire. . What did you want in return? For the couple only to convey the favor and help others. This story teaches us that simple lesson, “don’t judge a book by its cover” as in the case of this kind-hearted cyclist.

Lost on Route 66: Tales from the Mother Road is beautiful art of American history compiled into written memoir that has now left me wanting to explore more. I look forward to the day when I’m back on the road, face to face with that sign that says “Route 66.”
