Nobody likes pain, but who said it has to hurt? This is the 21st century. Could scientists have created something that numbed so well that you didn’t feel the pain? The answer is a profound “YES”. There are many topical anesthetics available for the technician to number the area before permanent makeup. The topical cream is applied before the permanent makeup procedure; the timer is set for 15-20 minutes and bingo – numb! Topical anesthetics usually contain any combination of the following: lidocaine, tetracaine, benzocaine, or epinephrine, in an emollient base. Since the effects of pain can include swelling, bleeding, and delayed healing, it is important for both the technician and the client to alleviate the pain. The safest topicals have a pH balance close to that of human tears, which is 7.5. These products numb so well that the procedure is very tolerable which is why so many people are having it done!

Eyebrows

As time goes by, many women start to lose their eyebrows. Or, if they were tweezed or shaved in the ’80s, they often didn’t grow back. With permanent makeup, you can have beautiful brows without the fuss of pencils that wear off or smudge. The “After” photo displayed on Nancy’s website, mentioned in the bottom paragraph of this article, shows how color can be placed behind the brow hairs for a more sophisticated, polished and finished look.

I worry about the word “permanent

or What if I don’t like the color? Oh no!

o What happens if the technician makes a mistake? oops!

or What if I just don’t like it? Yuck!

Hold your horses – let me ease your fears! Permanent makeup needs to be applied 2-3 times (4 weeks apart) to be truly permanent. It is true. The first time you apply permanent makeup, it will be a little darker than you imagined, but much of it will flake off when it has healed (2-4 weeks). This means you have to go back to have additional color applied.

Think of it like painting a house or a car. They require several coats of paint, right? Permanent makeup works the same way. It usually needs to be layered to achieve the desired result. At the end of a procedure, the color will be brighter and darker than the final result. During the 7 to 14 days of healing, small amounts of pigment will come off as it heals. Think of it as the body doing its job of expelling the pigment during the healing period. This means that if the color is not correct, the technician can change it during touch-up visits. If the technician puts pigment in a place where it shouldn’t be, it will likely come off during the healing period or can be adjusted or removed at your next appointment.

What if you don’t like it? Only a very small percentage of people don’t like it. Why? Because they had unrealistic expectations of the procedure to begin with. They probably didn’t do their research to know what to expect. Ease your worries: Talk to your technician and ask questions!

Permanent makeup is ingenuity at its finest.

Since the beginning of time, humans have been decorating their bodies with color. Permanent makeup is not new nor is it a trend destined to go out of style next season. It’s here to stay because it’s so timeless. It’s popular because it’s wit at its best! If you apply makeup every day anyway, why not save yourself some time and money and make it permanent? We all know that sparingly applied makeup makes a woman more attractive, if not downright beautiful. What you may not know is that many women have already put on permanent makeup.

The perfect brows, lips and eyeliner can be yours with permanent makeup – done subtly, naturally and beautifully, only YOU know you’ve got it. Think about saving time! Reaching for that lipstick after a meal because of embarrassing white, pasty, chalky lips? Imagine that now your lips have a permanent color: a natural baby pink color (or whatever you choose) that you have wanted for eons. If your eyebrows are sparse or your lips are uneven, you’re probably a candidate for permanent makeup. Since it applies so subtly, you don’t have to worry about it being too dark or unnatural. In short, permanent makeup is what women have done these days, and they’re so happy they finally did it! What are you waiting for?
