A prophetess and a prophet will normally operate in their prophetic gift from within two communication functions. Your gift will be activated by the Holy Spirit from the auditory or visual spheres. This article will help you discover and understand your dominant sphere. By that, I mean the most common internal process through which the gift of prophecy will be activated. Many beginners will experience frustration until they recognize the uniqueness of how they are personally activated in the prophetic. Here’s a starter tip: don’t compare yourself to others. If you operate at any level of prophetic function, that gift will have a unique format to flow through you. You cannot be someone else nor can they model exactly what the Holy Spirit is doing through you. Roses can be recognized for their distinctive floral qualities and by virtue of this are grouped together in the rose family. However, each individual rose plant has minute definitions that make it unique. Likewise, this uniqueness is true in the prophetic forum.

In this dominant role, a prophetic message will reach the recipient in words, thought patterns, sentences, or complete edits. The recipient will then express the message they are listening to.

In this dominant role, a prophetic message will reach the recipient in pictures, scenes, live broadcast, and storyboard. The recipient will then describe what the pictures show and that becomes the prophetic message.
In the scriptures we have examples of both types of prophetic function. Some prophets would be called seers because they functioned in the visual dimension. Others would receive the word of the Lord and were auditory based on their function. In the sixth chapter of Isaiah, the prophet sees the Lord high and exalted and is a clear example of how the visual medium works. In Micah chapter one, verse one, the prophet receives a word from the Lord which is often called oracles of the Lord. This is an example of how the prophet works in the auditory dimension.
Today’s prophets will generally function outside of the auditory or visual. If you tend to compose a letter from word patterns, your dominant strength is in the auditory. Usually you will receive prophetic messages that way. On the other hand, if you write a letter from visual concepts, your dominant strength is in the visuals. This will help clarify why some people new to prophetic places often say in frustration, “Oh, I rarely have visions or dreams,” yet they will have a developed ability to communicate and articulate concepts. This is how this hearing person will receive prophetic shocks. Each type should be aware of the auditory and visual dimensions and ask the Holy Spirit to sharpen their skills in their area of strength so that they can enter into prophetic experiences.
Sometimes both the auditory and visual realms overlap. Let me share a personal example here before closing. Recently at night I had a dream. I saw Jesus in the distance, but moving quickly towards me. He was clothed in radiant light and glory. In seconds, the gap between us narrowed, but as it got closer, it grew brighter and brighter to the point that it looked like lightning. At last, all I could see was the outline of His Presence in the background of this tremendous release of pure, radiant white light that flowed from Him. I could feel this light passing through me. When he got very close to me, he suddenly disappeared, but then he spoke to me. “I’m still with you. I’ve just passed out of your visual spectrum, but I’ve come to talk to you.” He further explained: “What you just observed is what happened in the upper room after My resurrection. The disciples suddenly saw Me standing in their midst because I entered their visual spectrum. I spoke to them and ate with them. Then I went out of their visual spectrum. They felt like I was leaving, but I never leave. I just enter or leave the human visual spectrum so that visually people can find me. “
He then went on to talk to me about the transfer of spiritual provision. That all provisions exist in Heaven and appear there in the form of light. When someone on earth has faith in that provision, that faith brings the provision to the natural dimension of the earth, where it acquires substance.
In this dream both the visual and auditory dimensions operated. In my opinion, every prophetic person will encounter these two distinctive realms when the Holy Spirit releases His prophetic power.
