The art of contouring and shaping a face is just that, an art. You can slim down an entire face and fill in a narrow one using foundation, powder, and blush. Remember that light advances and darkness recedes. To highlight a feature, lighten it; to minimize a point, darken it.

  • Wide nose: Shade the sides of the nose from the bridge to the nose; blend towards the cheeks.
  • Full cheeks: Shade in a triangle with one long side along the lower edge of the cheekbone, one short side near the hairline to the earlobe, the third side to a point just below the center of the eye.
  • Wide forehead: Shade a triangle above the eyebrow towards the temple.
  • Long nose: Shadow under the tip of the nose.
  • Loose jaw line: Shade just below the jawline.
  • Long and narrow face: Apply blush to the outer edge of the face towards the ear to suggest width.
  • Round face: Blush applied high on the cheekbone will slim the face.
  • Triangle or heart-shaped face: Add balance by applying blush high on the cheekbones and towards the ears.
  • square face: Apply blush to the lower side of the cheekbone, back and towards the ear.
  • Rude: Shade just below the jawline and blend under the chin.
  • Front too high: Shade near the hairline.
  • Face too wide: Limit by shading the side of the forehead and jaw line; highlight the center of the face.

An shading powder is recommended to subtly blur and soften features.

  • Contours and highlights expression lines.
  • Minimize prominent features.
  • Adds depth to features and helps shape the face.
  • To effectively maximize the beauty of prominent cheekbones.

Apply the shadow powder with a brush, an applicator or with your fingertips. Make sure it is well mixed. The intensity of the color should depend on the area to be emphasized or minimized. Create prominent features along the jawline, in the hollows of the cheeks, under the chin, and on the forehead. (A shading or contouring powder is recommended.) Use in conjunction with other products when additional color is desired. Never use it directly under the eyes. Reserve this area for the highlighter.

beauty tips:

  • Don’t bring the color up or in to close your eyes; this makes them appear smaller.
  • Don’t bring the color too close to the nose; this closes the face.
  • Don’t turn down the color too much; this makes you look drawn. Stop at or above the nostrils.
