States Allow Sports Betting
If you’re wondering what states allow sports betting, here’s a quick guide. Nevada and New Jersey are the only two U.S. states that don’t yet have legalized sports betting. But don’t despair. Several other states are on the cusp of legalizing this form of gambling. Alaska and Hawaii are not affected by the New York-New Jersey relationship. In addition, South Dakota and Wisconsin already have sports betting laws. Arizona and Georgia are also considering legalizing sports betting.
New Hampshire recently rolled out sports betting. The state will allow retail and mobile wagering and other providers plan to expand in the future. Meanwhile, New Jersey is one of the largest states with legalized sports betting, offering retail and online betting at the Meadowlands and Atlantic City. In New Mexico, sports wagering is permitted in Native American casinos. It’s worth mentioning that New Jersey’s gaming ban is being overturned by the Supreme Court.
The ACA 16 is the next biggest step toward legalizing sports betting in the state. The legislation would amend the state constitution and require the approval of 2/3 of the legislature. It’s not clear if this initiative will pass, but it’s possible that it’ll be delayed. Additionally, the Louisiana legislature has passed a bill that would place a 10% flat tax on net sports betting proceeds on the ballot in November.
Which States Allow Sports Betting?
Although there is no pending legislation in Arkansas, the governor signed a bill to legalize sports betting in the state in March 2021. Since then, the state has allowed sports betting online and in its casinos. In April 2020, Governor Doug Ducey signed a law allowing for sports betting. In the meantime, Wyoming is on track to legalize sports betting and offer it statewide. So, which states allow for sports betting?
In addition to Nevada, Minnesota has long been one of the few states without major gambling entities. In fact, it’s unlikely that sports betting will ever come to the state. But, lawmakers in both states have already approved ACA 16 legislation to legalize sports betting. It’s not clear, however, if it will be implemented. The state’s legislative history shows that it’s a great place to gamble and the people are ready to support it.
Despite the legality of sports betting, many states are still trying to approve it. In Texas, for instance, a bill has been introduced that would allow online betting in Texas casinos. But the Governor hasn’t yet signed it. Currently, the bill is awaiting the Legislature’s approval, so it’s unclear when it will be on the ballot. For the most part, though, the state has approved ACA 16 in 2016.
