DJ Drama is a Jamaican artist who serves as the official rap DJ for TI. Throughout his career, he has had several hit singles and albums to his name. What he is best known for, however, are the many DJ Drama Mixes who have introduced fans to some of the most popular tracks in all of rap.
The mixtapes produced by DJ drama have been some of the most successful in the mixtape industry. The two best known are Dedication 2 and the entire Gangsta Grillz series. Both were highly acclaimed by fans and critics alike, with Dedicated 2 even being rated one of the 10 best recordings of 2006 by The New York Times.
Although he primarily works with rapper TI, DJ Drama has collaborated with some of the biggest names in rap. He was featured on DJ Chuck T’s mixtape Down South Slangin ’59 on tracks with Soulja Slim and Juvenile. His own mixtapes have included performances and production appearances by the likes of Kanye West and Asher Roth.
DJ Drama has only been on the hip hop scene for a few years, but he’s already become an award-winning influence. He was nominated for the DJ of the Year honor at the BET Hip Hop Awards. In 2008, he took home the title of Best Mixtape for Hood Generals.
